This was a project that I specifically got for the experience of doing it. I don't actually have a spot for it. I'd never upholstered a headboard and wanted to try it out. I also was able to do some covered buttons for it too. Those were really fun and took about 3 seconds each.
I started by ripping off the existing fabric. Which totally gave me the willies. It felt like bed bugs were crawling all over me for the rest of the day. Then I painted the frame off white and distressed it.
I used some fabric I bought from the flea market in Texas and stapled it around the board that they already had cut to fit and drilled two "button" holes into the wood where I could sew the buttons on. If I was smart I would have drilled them before I put the fabric on... but I'm not.
You can buy button cover kits at Walmart for like $1 for 4. Tara was laughing at how thoroughly entertained I was because it was SO easy. Literally, a caveman could do it.
And here's the finished product. It was a fun one and only took me a couple hours. Most of that was waiting for the paint to dry so I could distress the wood.

New pillows
I have never decorated my master bedroom. I've always hated it and never really had any furniture that I liked. The only guidance from my husband these past 6 years has been "no pink". So when all of blogland decided "beachy cottage" was the new cool way to decorate I kinda went with it. I'll post some pictures when it's NOT laundry day of the whole room, as for now all you get are these pillows I made. The bedding I bought was from Rachel Ashwells collection off ebay. They have pink (which I would have LOVED but was a no go from the husband), tan, a stripe and this light blue color. If you search for Simply Shabby linen duvet it should narrow down the search enough for you. It came in a really pretty package made out of the same fabric as the bedding. So when I was throwing it away, I held off thinking like the hoarder I am that I could use it one day. I used a couple boring white pillow covers I got in the as is section at ikea and spruced them up with the envelope thingy, some muslin I had, and part of the sheet I cut off of Paysen's balloon shade I made a while back. I just kinda drew the letters S E and A and a starfish on the fabric with a pencil, cut them a little bigger than the pencil marks and sewed them on. They frayed perfectly after a wash. The only thing I would do different next time is make the starfish a little skinnier and longer.

Trip to Texas
Did I mention that while I was in Texas, my best friend Katie and I got a wild hair and decided to re-do her kitchen cabinets? She wanted a lighter, cleaner kitchen and this is what we came up with. We also painted her walls a light tan. She still needs to finish cutting it in.
She found her clocks that you can kinda see at the flea market so I painted her a "Never enough thyme" sign to hang above her door. I also put a picture in here of this adorable cast iron scale she also bought there. She still wants to do a few things like rip out the back splash and put up subway tile. Sorry the pictures suck, I didn't realize her camera was so lame.

Afters
I'll post some pictures of what I got when I get the rest of it in the mail. I bought a sign that I knew wasn't going to fit in my luggage but I just had to have it :)
I added the pictures I took from my iphone. They might actually be better than her camera. At least you can click to enlarge. The island is on rollers in case you're wondering what's happening with the angle.

New Rage
Didn't you hear about the new lighting rage? Well, I did. And I decided to jump on the band wagon. So here is my "cage basket thingy" lighting. I used a vintage golf ball basket turned up side down and a single plug in light from Ikea. I made my niece, Tara's daughter, wrap the rope around the cord. Happy summer vacation, here's a to-do list.

Miss me yet?
Sorry for the lack of postings. I just got back from my fun filled yet exhausting trip to Canton. I guess my sisters and mom contracted a serious case of design amnesia because they haven't done anything new in FOREVER.
So are you ready to find out who won the 100th follower giveaway? I guess first I should show you what they won huh?
It's a cute little red berry bucket. Emphasis on little due to the lack of space in my luggage. Sorry.
And the winner is... Spencer and Chelsea Coon. Send your address to nikki_grandy@yahoo.com and I'll mail it or drop it by. I stalked your blog and only found one posting about what you might like. So when I went to Canton, I was looking for something RED that you could put on your new black bookcase. I hope you like it!
I'll post more about my trip later when I get pictures (hint hint, Katie). We got a wild hair while I was there and decided to refinish all of my friend Katies kitchen cabinets, hang curtains, make pillows. You know, the kinds of things that require staying up until 2am every night. And now I will lapse into a coma.
