Patton's nursery

I've been working on the new nursery/ guest room/ craft storage room. It's the last room in the house so it's kind of a dumping ground for everything that doesn't have a spot.

My favorite thing in this room so far is the World Atlas pages from 1912 I put above the chair rail. They were almost disintegrating in my hands as I put the double sided tape on the backs. I was going to use glue but with how often I change my decorations I decided against it.

My husband and I bought this house new so all the walls were white and at my mercy. We had only been in the house for a little over a month when he left for this deployment so when he gets home, he'll have a new baby and hopefully a completely decorated house to come home to. He might even be more excited about the fact that he won't have to paint a single wall than the new baby.

Jewelry Frame

Here is the frame from a little cabinet. It didn't fit the frame of the shelf and just looked awkward. I took the frame off, added some chicken wire and fabric and hung it on the wall next to the shelf it originally came with. I need to paint my bathroom but of course, can't decide on a color.

Ceiling tin backsplash

I have been wanting to do a ceiling tin backsplash for a while but lacked the motivation. I got the motivation and kept it until... oh... about half way through the project. Which always happens to me. But since I use my kitchen 17 times a day I had to finish in a timely matter.

I got the tin at Lowes and painted it off white. It looked a little too new for my taste so I slapped a little of my favorite stain (provincial) on it and... tada! I still need to add a little trim around the window and touch up a few spots, but this is pretty much it. I saw it on HGTV once and really like how it turned out. And since I have no idea how to tile I thought I'd try this. Nice reasoning, I know.

Ok, so maybe nobody will notice this detail but that's not the point right? I like it. And now Paysen sings songs really loudly when I put her in bed.

Old mirror

This was an easy fix for a boring mirror that I already had. I just widened the original frame with 1" x 3" pieces of wood and used a brad nailer to attach some ceiling tin I found on craigslist. I've seen mirrors like it at antique stores but could never find one for less than $600. Total cost for this project was $25.00 (for the tin and wood).

Dresser re-do

I'm going to make a promise to myself. I will even go so far as to write it in blood. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER modge podge anything onto furniture. I found this little dresser at a store in Phoenix called Lizabel's Treasures. They have great stuff, you should check it out. Anyways, I loved the lines and details and thought to myself "Self, it can't be that hard to take those hideous modged podged flowers off- you're coming home with me!". And then I tried to razor them off. Then used chemical cleaners, then got a freakin chemical paint remover. It left a sticky residue and I had to scrape with all my little might but it still had bumps. I'm the kind of cheap person who refuses to buy tools for projects when a metal spatula will work just as well but even trusty spat didn't work. Anyways to make a short story ridiculously long, I ended up just sanding off as much as I could and then painting over it all. A project that should have taken an hour turned into 3 days. Die Modge Podge.

Paysen's Room

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted last. I can't even say I haven't been working on projects. My husband is deployed to Iraq so I started a couple really big projects in December hoping to keep my mind off the fact that he was on the other side of the world. I don't know if it worked because lets face it, the holidays still sucked, but at least I wasn't bored.

I revamped a boring lamp shade for my daughters room. I spent 1.00 on it at Ikea and then just cut strips of an old sheet I had. I sewed one line down the middle of the strip and then held on to one end of the thread and pushed the fabric up for the bunched up look.

I also put up crown molding and repainted with pink scallops as a border. I found two old pink windows from my Mom's antique shop to hang on the wall. You guys should seriously check it out if you're ever in the Verde Valley. She's so cheap and has lots of hidden treasures (the store, not my mom) I found some fabric from Hobby Lobby and put it behind them.

I just need help with one thing. I found a vintage "Cinderella" giant golden book at Merchant Square and I made copies of them. I want to Modge Podge them onto mdf boards or foam board or something but it needs to be thicker for that 3D look. I thought about canvas but that's really expensive and I'm not sure if they come in exactly 9 1/2" by 13" I want them to last long but if I use boards they'll be super heavy. Then there's the pain of mounting them. Should I use claw hooks, or use finishing nails to attach them directly to the wall? Here's a picture of them just taped up where I want them to go. What's the cheapest, lightest, most durable way to do this?

I also almost finished my sons room, I'm just waiting for a few pictures I ordered online to show up and I'll post that.
