Chandler Marketplace Flea Market

These are our finds, we both had a really limited budget but that was half the fun, finding something that we absolutely loved and staying in our budgets. It helped Nik that she found her jars for a dollar each!

Nikki and I spent yesterday at the flea market in the parking lot of one of our favorite antique malls, Chandler Marketplace. We were equally excited about the piles and piles of junk to dig through and the hot dogs that we ate for breakfast. She was on the hunt for small vintage canning jars with zinc lids to make a new chandelier over her dining table and I was basically looking for something that I couldn't afford.

What is it about a pregnant belly that invites people to put their strange hands all over you? Nik was completely molested by this Spanish lady who proclaimed that she was having a boy.

I know there are only two pics of actual junk in here. We had to document the hot dog eating. Super flattering pics, right? I did like this shelving unit made with salvage boards and an old window.

Also, I loved this bench made out of one of those old Jenny Lind cribs. I see those ugly things at thrift stores all the time, and I could actually tolerate it if it didn't resemble a crib any more at all.

Birshday Loot

I TOTALLY scored this year on my birthday. My husband and I aren't big holiday celebrators but I must say it was nice to get completely spoiled rotten. Even if it was just because they feel bad for me because my husbands not here:)

My mom gave this to me. It was my grandmas, I think it used to be a chemistry set or something. I just stuck some leftover sprigs from my mantel project in the beaker thingys.

My sisters and Mom went in together to get me this and tara refinished it in the same cream color as my bed.

Katie Whipple took me shopping to get this chair and window. It was nice having her visit so I could get a lot done around the house I've been meaning to do for a while.

Colton got me some SWEEEET handerpants, a book, and a frog slingshot that was a giant hit with my kids.
But probably the best present I got was Caleb telling me I can finally put in that beautiful wood flooring I've been LUSTING after since we moved in.
YAY!!!!!

Pottery barn boxes

Does anyone remember the Pottery Barn "Weston" trunks? Well, I wanted them but when I told my husband they were $1,200.00 for a set of three he suggested I try and make them. So this is a picture of the actual trunks from Pottery Barn.

And here is my rendition.

I spent about $75 making all three of them, including hardware. I couldn't find the hardware that looked like the original so I improvised and got some regular clasps and painted a black circle around it. I used pine and I remember while I was putting it together, my dad mentioned how it was a good thing I liked the "distressed look". I'm not sure what he was saying, but I think they turned out pretty good.

Ladder pot rack

My awesome sister gave me some old pulleys she found on a deserted horse property. I wanted to hang this ladder over my island for a while now and when she gave them to me, I knew they would be perfect to use. We needed to hang them from the studs and I was hoping there were two perfectly centered over the island. But it never works that way. We found one directly over the center so we decided to just use two eye hooks instead of four.

Don't make fun.

I realize that putting a fireplace mantel on a wall with no fireplace can be argued as pointless. My husband lets me know all the time. But I LOVE the way a mantel looks and having a real fireplace in Arizona IS pointless. So I improvised.

I went to Goodwill and found a bunch of really awesome things to decorate my mantel with. Layla Palmer at The Lettered Cottage inspired me to redecorate on the cheap. She decorated her mantel and I fell in lust. So I copied her. I bought a bunch of pitchers and spray painted them white. She is SUCH a genius. I love her blog, you should go check it out. www.theletteredcottage.net

Chair

I need a dressing chair for my room because I can't really reach my feet to put on shoes being this pregnant. Thanks goodness for old navy flip flops. I reupholstered it with some extra fabric I got at Zoe's trunk in Chandler. I heart Zoe's trunk.

Feelin' Blue

I wanted a splash of color in my dining room so my sister Dawn repainted this corner cabinet and gave it to me and I got a four chairs at a yard sale in my neighborhood for $5. I already had the black chairs. I don't have a before picture of the chairs but they were white and light wood colored. I painted them the same blue as the corner cabinet and used my favorite stain over the top. I'm using the other two chairs in my bathroom for my vanity and Pattens room. Now I just need window treatments and my dining room will be finished.

KING sized bed

The more kids I have, the smaller my bed seems and a queen just wasn't cutting it for me anymore. My sister spotted this KING sized bed on craigslist and we even got him to deliver it to my house. It's a little shorter but I'm 5'1" (ok, ok 5 feet) and 7 months pregnant so it's my perfect match. My husband might have to get used to it, but he will have been sleeping on a twin sized cot for a year when he gets home so I don't expect many arguments :)
